Because you deserve the best coaching
Our coaches have played at all levels of the game. We are proud of our two national champions, and of the commitment they all share to the game of basketball.
Coach Steve

The team is led by our Head Coach, Steve Rich. As a pupil at Hayes School, Steve won the National Schools tournament. He went on to represent and captain the England age group team, and to play Div 1 National League Men’s Basketball. He now plays for Bromley Fury Vets.
Steve’ coaching record is just as impressive. He has coached Hayes School teams to the finals of county and national championships, and for the last two years his U14 Bromley NBL team have reached the end-of season play-offs, finishing runners up in 23/24 and winners in 24/25, missing out by the narrowest of margins on promotion to the premier league. This year they hope to go one better!
As well as coaching our U14 NBL team, Steve is involved in running our U12, U13, U14 and U16 sessions, as well as supporting our entire coaching team to ensure a coherent approach across all activities.
Coach Leo
Leo Nelson has also played at the highest level. He represented the London regional team at U13 and U15 age groups and won Basketball England’s RDT National Tournament, where he had the unenviable task of defending a player he knew at the time only as “Jeremy”, but who we all now know as NBA star Jeremy Sochan.

Leo played his initial club basketball for London Thunder, before Bromley had a junior section. He reached the U14 play-off final in Manchester against a Worthing Thunder team featuring Cameron Hildreth, now playing in the US. He was a founding member of Bromley’s U18 NBA, which he captained for two years.
Leo is is coach of our U16 Junior NBA team. We are proud of Leo’s coaching journey, starting out as a trainee coach at our junior sessions and qualifying for his coaching certificates, 2025/26 will be Leo’s 5th season coaching at NBL level. This year, Leo is also coaching our U10 and U11 sessions, working hard to to develop the core skills that he will be looking for as those young players progress.
Coach Ross

Ross Palmer is the coach of our U18 NBL Team. Ross is teacher at Bullers Wood School for boys and has been instrumental in building up the basketball programme there.
Over the past five years, basketball at Bullers Wood has gone from strength to strength, with teams competing successfully in Bromley, Kent, and national competitions. This growth has not only raised the profile of the sport within the school but has also created valuable pathways for young players to test themselves against strong opposition.
Originally from Devon, Ross played in the NBL for the Torbay Tigers U14 and U16 South West division under the guidance of the late Coach Rick Wooldridge and assistant coach Troy Culley. This strong foundation in the game has shaped his coaching philosophy and commitment to developing young players. This year, Ross has also taken over from Coach Steve in managing the Bromley Schools Tournament, and he sees it as a privilege to now step into the role of Head Coach for Bromley Fury U18, where he is excited to continue nurturing talent and driving the programme forward.
Coach Rory
Rory Johnson coaches our U12 and U13 CVL teams. Rory is captain of the Bromley Fury 1st Team.

Rory is a natural enthusiast and his sessions are always popular. He is also an extremely talented player.
